Atek – monitoring and traceability through technology

“Atek specializes in monitoring and traceability systems. In hospitals, there are between 200 to 500 fridges and freezers, which must be monitored for temperature, in order to preserve what is inside. Currently, all temperatures are being monitored with a pen and paper! “At Atek, we offer to automate this process and warn in case of temperature deviation to ensure a consistent level.” says Hakim Rouab, founder and CEO of the company.

“We started in 2016,” he continues, “and we worked with the Centech. Centech has helped us structure, guidance, and provided us with some sources of funding that have allowed us to improve our business processes and our branding. The Montreal ecosystem is full of opportunities!”

The purpose of the company is simple: “apply technological advances for repetitive tasks, which can be described as monotonous”.

But Atek also deployed 5000 sensors, has 5 million data records per day and, most importantly, saved $250 000 of monthly damages, thanks to their alert system. Many reputable companies trust them, such as the Cardiology Institute of Montreal, the Jewish General Hospital, the l’Institut de Technologie Agroalimentaire, and many more – a list that continues to grow.

“We started in 2016, and we worked with the Centech. Centech has helped us structure, guidance, and provided us with some sources of funding that have allowed us to improve our business processes and our branding. The Montreal ecosystem is full of opportunities!”

Atek not only strives for economic and entrepreneurial success but also for its commitment to give back to the Montreal ecosystem. In 2018, École Polytechnique de Montréal highlighted Atek’s outstanding contribution to its involvement with their interns. In distinguishing Atek as a Star Supervisor, Marie-Josée Dionne, director of internships, said: “An essential ingredient to the success of an internship is (…) the involvement of the internship supervisor. There are supervisors who, through their passion, their outstanding involvement, stand out for the interns. We call them Star Supervisors.”
